Vernon E. Russell, 75 of Zanesville and
Glouster entered into eternal salvation
through Jesus Christ his Lord on Saturday July
18, 2009. Born March 13, 1934 in East
Fultonham, Ohio, he was the son of the late
George Alfred and Mildred Eppley Russell. He
retired from Conrail Railroad and Landmark
(Countrymark). After retirement he became an
avid tennis player and belonged to the
Buttonwood Bay Tennis Club in Sebring, FL. He
graduated from Roseville High School in 1952,
was a member of the Heartland Christian Church
in Sebring, FL and attended the Rolling Plains
United Methodist Church in Zanesville. He was
a charter member of the National Insulator
Collectors, a member of the Muskingum Lodge
F&AM #368, and a member of the Scottish Rite
Bodies in the Valley of Cambridge. He was on
the Newton volunteer fire department in the
1950s. Vernon built a small chapel at Burr
Oak in the memory of his and Mary Jane's
parents where visitors from many places
stopped, prayed and shared prayer requests.
The chapel was then donated to Lloyd Middleton
in Coolville to share with a larger population
of visitors. He and his wife Mary Jane have
spent the last ten years during the winter in
a retirement village in Sebring, FL. They
made lifelong friendships on cruises and other
travels around the world. He never met a
stranger, always had a positive attitude, and
always looked for ways to help others.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary
Jane Mingus Russell; a daughter, Belinda Jane
(Stephen) Martin of Westerville; three
granddaughters, Sarah Carletti of Boston,
Rhonda Martin of Westerville, and Sarah
(Korey) Kincde of Grove City; several nieces
and nephews; and two brothers, Roger (Linda)
Russell of Sebring, FL and Max (Susan) Russell
of Naples, FL.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday July 22, 2009 at the Morrison
Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.
Inurnment will be in the Fultonham Cemetery.
