Thelma Simerly Obituary

Thelma A. Simerly, 77 of Athens, formerly of
Glouster passed away Saturday May 9, 2009
surrounded by her family and friends. She
flew away to be with the Lord. Born January
4, 1932 in Saxton, W.V., she was the daughter
of the late Arlie and Maggie Manning Gunnoe.

She is survived by four sons, Shane (Misty
Dawn Wilson) Simerly of Athens, with whom she
resided, Terry (Marcia) Simerly Sr. of
Lancaster, Andy (Mabel) Simerly of Athens, and
Ken (Joann) Simerly of Kentucky; four
daughters, Diana Sue McAlpin of Palm Bay,
Florida, Gannett (Bob) Cinquepalmi of
Glouster, Geneva McQuade of Rockbridge, and
Paula (Mark Thomas) Simerly of Dayton; very
special grandchildren, Aerial Brooke Simerly,
Shanna Simerly-McAlpin and Josh Russell,
a.k.a. Granny's Patrick Swayze, Terry Lee Jr.,
Jessica, and Justin Simerly, DeeDee and Missy
Kiser, Angie Barnhart, Shannon Cinquepalmi,
Amanda Johnson and Dennis Jeffrey, Kevin and
Sandy Kiser; other grandchildren, Janet,
Michael, David, Bill, Brian, Andrea, Chris,
Tony, "Lil" Kenny Simerly, Tarrah and Heather
Johnson, Dusty Corne, Jennifer McQuade, Shaun
McAlpin, Robbie and Tyler Cinquepalmi, and a
granddaughter-in-law, Misty Marie Simerly; 45
great grandchildren; special great
grandchildren, Ryan McAlpin, Cheriko, Haylee,
and Kaylee Campbell, Terry Lee Simerly III.,
Kody, Brittney, and Briana Kiser, Patience,
Madison, Olivia, Jada, Cayden, and Coen
Patrick Jeffrey, Austin Allen McAlpin,
Trinity, Shawn, Aiden, and Jacob Simerly,
Brandon Henderson, Bradley and Shannon
Cinquepalmi, and Shawn and Alyssa Turley;
three brothers, Arthur "Cracker", Kermit, and
Donald Gunnoe; three sisters, Shirley Cox,
Irene Lafferty, and Pauline Payne; special
nieces, Norma Kiser and Blanche Kilgore;
special friends and caretakers, Dusty Waldeck,
Esther Williams, and Susan Brooks; special
friends, Jim, Peggy, Barbie, and Jimmy
Richards, Stella Helms, Michelle Vaido, Henry
McDaniel, Jack and Jackie Andrews, Katie
Hooper, Mary and Bonnie Jennice, Daniel
Brooks, and Pam Kempton. A special thanks to
Dr. Lance Broy for all of Thelma's care
through the years. And also a special thanks
to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brown for coming into
Thelma's life.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, William Simerly; a grandson,
Shawn Simerly McAlpin; a granddaughter, Misty
Dawn Corne; a great grandson, Dominick
Jeffrey; a brother, Arlie Delmar Gunnoe; a
sister, Ruby Combs; and a nephew, Cidney "Dee"
Kiser.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Friday May 15, 2009 at the Bishopville Church
of Christ with Rev. James Brown officiating.
Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery,
Glouster. Friends may call at the Morrison
Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville on
Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A comforting
