Thelma Hambel Obituary

Thelma Jones Hambel, 96, of McConnelsville
passed away Sunday January 28, 2007 at St.
Ann's Hospital, Columbus. Born August 31,
1910 in Athens County, she was the daughter of
the late Herman and Ora Mae Kasler Jones. The
Kasler side of her family was among the first
settlers in Athens County and helped establish
the Coonskin Library in Amesville, the first
library in the Northwest Territory. Since
education was important to her family, Thelma
attended Ohio University and taught at Oakdale
School. In addition, Thelma was employed by
Otterbein College. She was a long time member
of the Thea Chapter of Order of Eastern Stars
and the Malta United Methodist Church. She
was a healthy, perky, cute and independent
lady well into her 90's. She loved to sew,
quilt, garden, tend her flowers and watch the
Ohio State Buckeyes play football and
basketball.

She is survived by one daughter, Karla (Bob)
Lortz of Delaware; one brother, Elmer (Eileen)
Jones of Newark; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Fred; an infant daughter,
Sharma; a brother, Eugene; and a sister, Mary
Bernadine.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on
Friday February 2, 2007 at the Morrison
Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.
Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery,
Glouster. Friends may call at the funeral
home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, contributions can be made to the
Trimble Local Textbook and Supplies
