Patricia "Patty" (Dixon) Smith

Patricia J. “Patty” Dixon Smith, 76 of Glouster passed away Wednesday March 11, 2026, at Kobacker House, Columbus.  She was born on October 7, 1949, in Millfield.  She was a 1967 graduate of Glouster High School and a 1992 graduate of Hocking College, where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Human and Correctional Services. In addition to her degree, she successfully completed training through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council. She was formerly employed by the Athens County Sheriff’s Department and later retired from My Sister’s Place where she worked as a court advocate.  Patty was an avid reader.

She is survived by a son, Ronald (Mary) Herbert Jr. of Albany; daughters, Miranda (Ted) Sutherland of Wichita, KS and Sarah Smith of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Kendall Herbert, Brayden, Bryce, Brody, and Brennan Fox, Annalyse and Melanie Williams, Gatlin and Gunnar Herbert, Callista, Catalleia, Cairo Smith, and soon to arrive, León Smith; great grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, and Lydia Herbert and Breez Fox; a sister, Lou Anna (Jerry) Lenigar of Glouster; and a sister-in-law, Linda Dixon of Glouster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur “Art” Smith; her father, John Dixon Sr.; her mother, Grace Dixon Rankin; a grandson, C.J. Smith; and brothers, Jerry, John, and Richard Dixon.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday March 14, 2026, at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.  Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.  A visitation will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.  Contributions in memory of Patty can be made to My Sister’s Place, PO Box 1158, Athens, Ohio 45701.  A message of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting the tribute wall at www.morrisonfc.com.
