Mary Virginia Rogers Bryson, age 98, daughter
of the late John Wesley Harper and Margaret
Lucy Atkins, died on June 3, 2005 at the
O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. She was
born in Pleasant View, WV. on September 14,
1906, and grew up on a farm near Washington
Bottom outside of Parkersburg, WV. She
attended Mountain State Business College in
Parkersburg. She has lived in Glouster, OH.
since the late 20's, actively helping her late
husband, Holly, in his electric & plumbing
business and selling driver's licenses and
tags for many years. She was a member of the
Glouster United Methodist Church, a past
Worthy Matron of the Glouster Chapter 192
Order of Eastern Star, and the American Legion
Ladies Auxiliary. She also was employed as a
seamstress at the former Nelsonville TB
Hospital for five years. She was a loving and
caring mother. She shared generously of her
talents in quilting and crocheting by giving
quilts and afghans and other knitted items to
many relatives and friends. She was an
excellent cook and shared a love and a green
thumb for flower and vegetable gardening. She
enjoyed traveling and spent the greater part
of 25 plus years wintering in Bonita Springs,
FL.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Anita
Rogers of Glouster, who lovingly cared for her
mother in her waning years; her son (Ret)
Col. Roy Dean Rogers and his wife Roberta of
Newport News, VA; 2 granddaughters, Leslie
Diane Wilson and Kristin Susanne Johnson; 4
great grandchildren, Stephanie Meghan Ireland,
Samantha Marie Johnson, Kevin Mark Johnson,
and William Dean Wilson; also surviving are 4
step children and numerous step grandchildren
whom she was very fond of from her Bryson
marriage; and several nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
She was preceded in death by her first
husband, Holly A. Rogers and second husband
Ernest K. Bryson; 3 brothers; 2 half brothers;
and 2 half sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m.
on Monday June 6, 2005 at the Morrison
Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Col.
Roy Dean Rogers officiating. Interment will
be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday
from 6 to 8 p.m. where there will be an
Eastern Stars Service at 7:30 p.m. A
