Joan Moore Obituary

Joan “Jody” Moore, 96 of Glouster, passed away Tuesday February 25, 2025, at The Laurels in Athens.  She was born November 26, 1928, in Glouster.  She was the daughter of the late James and Inez Sheskey Cotter. 

She was a devoted member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she served as a religious education teacher. Jody also belonged to the Glouster Chit Chat Club. She concluded her professional career at Trimble Local School, where she dedicated 23 years as a teacher's aide. Additionally, she fulfilled roles as a high school study hall monitor and a Title One reading aide. Jody began her working life at Mundew's Grocery Store in Glouster as a clerk while she was still in high school. She later worked as a clerk at Luckoff's department store, in the student loan office at Ohio University, and as a rural route carrier for the United States Postal Service on weekends and during the summers. Moreover, she volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader for the cadets and senior scouts. In addition, her volunteer contributions included dedicated service to the former Appalachian Community Hospice, O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, and active participation in the Glouster Volunteers organization, where she worked on various community improvement projects.

She is survived by three sons, James (Uleta) Moore of Glouster, Pete (Mary) Moore of Glouster, and Stephen (LeeAnna) Moore of Columbus; a daughter Lesa Ann (Brian Balch) of Pomeroy; grandchildren Peter, Chip, Alison, Geoff, Curt, Heath, Tiffiny, Beth and Julie; several great and great-great grandchildren; a brother James “Sonny” Cotter of Dayton; and a sister-in-law, MaryJane Cotter.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William “Art” Moore; a great grandson Branson Moore; a brother Robert Cotter; and a sister Charlotte Rea.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday March 1, 2025, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Glouster with Fr. Jeremiah Hahn officiating.  Burial will be in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Trimble. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the church.  Contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church Queen of Heaven Cemetery Fund, 75 Stewart St., Athens, OH 45701.  A message of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting her tribute wall at www.morrisonfc.com.
