Janet M. Auer, 81 of Glouster, passed away Monday April 7, 2025, at her residence. Born April 26, 1943, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Garnet Waldeck Trace.
She retired from the Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine. She was a member of the Corning Eagles. Janet enjoyed gambling. She was also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Trimble Tomcats, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Bengals.
She is survived by a daughter, Deanna Smith of Groveport; sons, Joie McDonald of Jacksonville, James (Cheryl) McDonald of Jacksonville, Jon (Marilee) McDonald of Glouster, Jeff (Lisa) McDonald; grandchildren, Tiffiny (Harold) Peters, Beth Richardson, Julie (Billy) Collins, Janelle (Jeffrey) Toner, Megan Clouse (Jason), Luke Berick, Jessi Griffith, Joie (Nichole) McDonald, James (Adrienne) McDonald, Jon (Kaytlyn) McDonald, Colin (Courtnie) Smith, Casey Smith, and Amanda Smith; great grandchildren, Emma Giles, Eric Brooks, Bri West, Cody Welch, Zack Richardson, Odin Richardson, Jacob Collins, Kyleigh Toner (Michael), Kaylee Toner (Ethan), Conner Clouse, Caitlynn Clouse, Willow Berick, Rayne Griffith, Hunter McDonald, Sadie McDonald, Olivia McDonald, Damie McDonald, Francis June McDonald, Aralee McDonald, Sophia McDonald, Gemma McDonald, and Atticus McDonald; mother-in-law, Maxine Auer; sisters-in-law, Mona Craig and Pauline Trace; special friends, Dave Milton, Anna Coffman, Susie Hellyer, and Sandy Dunkle; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Erick Auer; great grandson, Ozzy McDonald; three brothers, Marvin “Sonny” (Carolyn), Jack (Wanda), and Robert Trace; a sister, Jo Ann (Robert) Tilley; and her father-in-law, Jim Auer Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday April 11, 2025, at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Jerry Marang officiating. A visitation will take place on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
