Gene A. Campbell Sr., 84 of Columbus, formerly of Glouster, passed away Monday January 20, 2025, at Pickaway Manor in Circleville. He was born October 15, 1940, in Painesville, OH to the late Forrest and Helen Besenyei Campbell. He retired from Kerr Distributing. Gene loved spending time with his family and visiting with friends. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Reds, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed playing cards and loved gambling, especially scratch-off lottery tickets. He also still enjoyed baking. He will be remembered fondly for his love of telling jokes. Money never mattered to Gene. He was rich in memories, family, friends, and the job he loved at Kerrs.
He is survived by three sons, Gene (Stella) Campbell Jr., of Georgia, Steven Campbell of Columbus, and Mark (Kelli) Campbell of Etna; two daughters, Kimberly (Douglas) Jarvis of Columbus and Melissa Campbell; grandchildren Jennifer Rose, Heath Austin (Sara), Alex Ray, Gene III, Zachary, Whitney Leigh, Bayleigh Madison (Charlie), Markie Jr. (Emily), Christa, Victoria (Nick), Emily (Seth), Espen, and Eric Dalmau; great grandchildren, Linken Avery, Laney Belle, Olivia Rose, Karter, Thomas, Braxton, Carsen, Wrenley Madison, Cash, Gene IV, Kat, Mia, Kash, Kroy, Wesley, and soon-to-be Cooper; three sisters-in-law, Dora Campbell, Cheryl (Larry) Hankinson, and Rhonda Nelson; a brother-in-law, Cedric Nelson; several nieces and nephews; special friends who were his classmates of the class of 1958, George Guffy and Pat Ferry; another special friend Ruth Ann Keirns; and his constant canine companion Ellie Mae.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by Rosemary, his beloved wife of 62 years; his brother Jimmy; his mother-in-law and father-in-law; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank Pickaway Manor for the wonderful care that they provided, especially nurse Amanda and aide Andrew.
Gene’s children will receive family and friends on Sunday January 26, 2025, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Morrison Funeral Chapel, 6525 S. St. Rt. 78, Glouster, OH 45732, for a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, please bring a scratch-off in honor him and the wonderful man that he was and celebrate Gene and Rose’s love story as they reunite.
