Flora North Obituary

Flora K. “Flo” North, 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at her daughter’s residence in Jacksonville.

Born November 23, 1942, in Newark, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ralph L. and Beulah B. Russell North. Flo graduated from Glouster High School and later served for several years as the Program Director of Head Start in Murray City.

Flo wore many hats throughout her life. She worked for several years as a bartender at the Wayside Inn Bar and Grill in Buchtel and later owned and operated the Home of the Star Restaurant and Bar in The Plains. She was a member of the Bishopville Church of Christ.

Flo had a zest for life and enjoyed the simple things that made her happy. She was an avid reader, loved crocheting, enjoyed shopping, and could often be found redecorating and making her home feel just right. Christmas was especially dear to her and was her favorite time of year.

Her greatest accomplishment, however, was her family. Flo cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took immense pride in each of them. She lovingly called all of her grandchildren her “angels,” a testament to the special place they held in her heart.

Flo was also well known for her homemade “candy.” Her fudge, no-bake cookies, and potato candy were favorites among family and friends, and her sweet treats became a cherished part of many family memories.

She is survived by her sons, James Bragg of Albany and Bill (Amy) Bragg of Malta; daughters, Janice (John) Smathers of Jacksonville and Sheila Hopkins of Albuquerque, New Mexico; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a cousin, Jackie Taylor; a dear friend, Bea Collins; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Flo was preceded in death by her grandson, Charles “Timmie” Drake II; and sisters, Janet, Myra, Diania, and Sue.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care team at OhioHealth Hospice, with special appreciation to her aide, Marissa Lenigar, for the kindness and care shown to Flo and her family.

Flo will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of family, her sweet treats, her creativity, and the many memories she created for those fortunate enough to know and love her. Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she gave them will remain with them always.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday September 21, 2026, at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Zachary Bragg and Kevin Stalder officiating.  Interment will be in the Hollister Cemetery.  A visitation will take place on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.  A message of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting www.morrisonfc.com.
