Don L. Holbert

Don L. Holbert, 82 of Glouster, passed away Monday August 26, 2024, at the Laurels in Athens.  He was born November 14, 1941 in Glouster. He was a 1959 graduate of Glouster High School and retired from Columbia Gas after 28 years. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Glouster. Don was a football coach for 43 years.  He refereed baseball and softball for 35 years, football for 10 years, and basketball for six years. He was an inductee and committee member of both the Trimble Athletic Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame. He received a 43-year award from the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association. He was on the Boy Scout review board for Troop #72 of Glouster.  He was a 50-year member of the Glouster Masonic Lodge, was a member of the Glouster Moose Lodge, and the Trimble Textbook and Supplies Foundation.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Marilyn J. Richards Holbert of Glouster; one son James W. (Lisa) Holbert of Glouster; one daughter Jennifer (Jared) McClelland of Bidwell; grandchildren Kayleigh Coler, Janelle (Austin) Neekamp, Justin McClelland and Don Holbert; sisters-in-law Jane Holbert and Pamela Holbert; nieces and nephews Kimberly, Jeff, Steve, Shayla, and Sharman; and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father James Walter Holbert; his mother Barbara Maxine Chappelear Holbert Campbell; his stepfather Robert Campbell; his twin brother Jon Holbert; and a half-brother Walt Holbert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday August 30, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Glouster with Father Donald Horak officiating.  Interment will be in the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Trimble.  Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2 to 8 pm at the Church.  Contributions can be made to the Trimble Red and Gray Athletic Boosters (football account), One Tomcat Dr., Glouster, OH 45732 or Chix-4-A-Cure, 8314 St. Rt. 685, Glouster, OH 45732.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville.
