David Conkey Sr. Obituary

David L. Conkey Sr., 75 of Jacksonville passed
away Friday December 26, 2008 at Doctor's West
Hospital, Columbus. Born July 20, 1933 in
Zanesville, he was the son of the late Floyd
and Alice Green Conkey. He was a Korean War
Army veteran who served in the 101st airborne
division. He retired from the T and M Machine
Shop in Nelsonville and previously worked at
Abex in Athens. He was a member of the
Trimble Masonic Lodge F&AM #557, he was a 32nd
Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite
Bodies in the Valley of Cambridge, the
Hillbilly Shriners in Buchtel, the Old
Settlers Committee, the Jacksonville Eagles
and V.F.W., he was a Ham Radio Operator
#KC8IEA, a member of the Top 23 CB Club and
his handle was "Sad Sack", he was a former
Jacksonville City Council Member, the former
Jacksonville fire chief and also the former
Jacksonville police chief.

He is survived by 8 children, Cathy Jones of
Hilliard, Vickie Lynn (Steve) Shy of
Baltimore, Ohio, David L. (Barb) Conkey Jr. of
Coolville, Teresa A. Dunlevy of Glouster,
Carol S. (Scott) Chapman of Millfield, Kelly
L. (Rick) Kasler of Glouster, Connie J.
Phillips of Nelsonville, and Floyd L. Conkey
of Kempner, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 4 great
grandchildren; a half sister, Jean of
Pennsylvania; his companion, Delores "Ann"
Devore; and his sisters and brothers-in-law.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death
by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Ellen Bruce
Conkey; a sister, Velma "Joann" Ferguson; and
a son-in-law, Frank Dunlevy Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Wednesday December 31, 2008 at the Bishopville
Church of Christ. Interment will be in the
Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville where there
will be a military graveside service conducted
by the United States Army Color Guard and the
Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call
at the Morrison Funeral Chapel, Glouster-
Bishopville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8
