Clarence E. Tinkham Jr., 64, of Chauncey
passed away Monday September 11, 2006 at his
residence. He was born August 6, 1942 in
Athens County. He was the son of the late
Clarence E. Sr. and Verna E. Webb Tinkham. He
was an Army Veteran. He retired from Southern
Ohio Coal Company, Meigs Mine #2, where he
worked as an electrician and mechanic for 25
years. He was a 1961 graduate of The Plains
High School where he received 9 varsity
letters; 4 in football, 3 in basketball, and 2
in baseball. He played on the 1961 baseball
team that went to the Ohio High School State
Tournament. He loved all sports and was
inducted into the Athens Sports Hall of Fame
in 1994 for his accomplishments in football,
basketball and baseball during his high school
career. He later became an avid golfer and
received many trophies and awards from several
golf tournaments. He was an avid gardener, a
member of the Bread of Life Church in
Jacksonville, and a former member of the
Athens Country Club.
He is survived by his wife Trinia Elswick
Tinkham of Chauncey; 5 sons, Michael (Shirley)
Tinkham of Millfield, Scott (Tammy) Tinkham of
Athens, Todd (Danielle) Tinkham of Marietta,
Chris Sabo of Jacksonville, and Charles "C.J."
(Jeannie) Jones of Athens; 2 daughters, Cindy
Tinkham of Columbus, and Misty (Roger)
Milstead of Glouster; 6 grandsons, Jordan,
Jamie, Christopher, Isaiah, Clarence, and
Kenneth; 8 granddaughters, Jessica, Kristi,
Isabella, Sarah, Kayla, Amanda, Miranda, and
Tamara; 1 great grandson, Jacob; 1 brother,
George (Pam) Tinkham of Columbus; 2 sisters,
Connie Tinkham of Maryland, and Karen (John)
Graham of Glouster; and 3 special friends,
Hector Flores, Garcie Workman, and John Metz.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death
by his first wife, Rita Spencer Tinkham; 2
daughters, Theresa "Terri" Tinkham and Heather
Jones; 1 sister, Donna Jean Tinkham; and his
wife's grandfather, Alvin Workman, who was a
special friend.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Friday September 15, 2006 at the Bread of Life
Church on 7th street in Jacksonville with
Pastor Ron Fierce officiating. Interment will
be in The Plains Cemetery where there will be
a military graveside service conducted by the
combined color guard unit. Friends may call
at the church on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
