Alice M. Slay, 83 of Jacksonville passed away
Thursday June 11, 2009 at the Hickory Creek
Nursing Center, The Plains. Born July 5, 1925
in West Columbian, WV, she was the daughter of
the late Ira and Maggie Hoffman Wolfe. She
was a member of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom
Hall in The Plains.
She is survived by seven children, Edie
Lanning of Brewster, OH, Joy (Bill) Sayre of
Mesa, AZ, Raymond (Rachel) Day of Logan, Dolph
Day Jr. of Albany, Helen McCoy of
Jacksonville, Rita (Perry) Fultz of
Jacksonville, and Paul (Dawn) Slay of Apache
Junction, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 24 great
grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Amer Slay; her ex husband,
Dolph Day Sr.; one son, Lester Day; four
sisters, Bessie Gillespie, Lula Preston,
Virginia Thomas, and Mary Parker; and two
brothers, Fred and Dale Wolfe.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on
Monday June 15, 2009 at the Morrison Funeral
Chapel, Glouster-Bishopville with Brother
Robert Beecher officiating. Interment will be
in the Maplewood Cemetery. Friends may call
at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and
